Thanks to advancements in dentistry, patients with a mouth full of failing teeth do not have to ever be seen with gaps in their smile! Additionally, it has never been easier (nor faster) for existing denture-wearers to finally give the “heave ho” to their old, uncomfortable, ill-fitting, and unpleasant dentures. Many different types of patients can be excellent candidates for implant-supported dentures even if they have existing bone loss. Plus, these patients do not have to undergo additional procedures to “prepare” the bone or treatment site for the implants.
Dr. Tony Lu of Downtown Dental Services in Cleveland, Ohio, is pleased to offer full mouth reconstruction with the All-on-Four approach. Also known as “same-day,” “teeth in a day,” or “immediate” implants, the All-on-Four technique for placing these artificial tooth roots completes smiles and delivers teeth in unprecedented time – just one visit. So, it is possible for us to perform extractions and place one’s denture during the same appointment.
All-on-4 is considered an approach that is both “graft-less” and involves placing a minimal number of implants. This revolutionary technique supports the most efficient treatment process and less time spent “chairside.” It also means there are fewer implant or treatment sites. This characteristic helps to minimize the expense, trauma, and recovery associated with the process.
As few as four to six implants can be surgically placed to support all replacement teeth in the upper or lower dental arch. These replacement teeth are part of a denture. The denture is later attached to the implants. Using specialized attachments, the denture can be easily removed for cleaning and just as easily reinserted by the patient. Since the denture is “rooted” in the jawbone with implants, it provides the ultimate stability to individuals who may have struggled with conventional dentures.
With All-on-4, Dr. Lu can also support a maximum number of replacement teeth with a minimal number of implants due to how and where each implant is placed. Precision planning is used to position and place implants in the jaw in a way that optimizes the available bone. The exact number of implants required to properly stabilize your new dentures depends on your unique needs and anatomical characteristics.
Additionally, while we may be able to place your permanent denture at the same time any extractions are performed, a provisional or temporary denture may be placed first prior to your receiving a permanent prosthesis.
We will discuss everything to expect before, during, and after your appointment. With continued guidance and consistent, routine visits to our office, your new dentures can continue to look, feel, and function as great as the day you received them!
